Harcourt Bull, Code Boot Camp Instructor
Harcourt Bull recently became the new Code Boot Camp Instructor for theClubhou.se! He made his way to theClubhou.se via interning as a Teacher’s Assistant for the CBC during his time at Augusta Technical College where he received his Associates degree in Computer Programming. Over the previous year, Harcourt assisted three cohorts of the CBC, helping to usher over twenty new web developers into the field.
Harcourt’s path to programming resulted from an earlier tinkering. Harkening back to his burgeoning years in the online scene, Harcourt shared he initially got into multi-player online games before meeting some like-minded techy friends who got him into building computers. He says he made some cool stuff (operational computer submerged in mineral oil!) and did some Bitcoin mining along the way. He joined the Air Force and served as a maintenance tech on the stealth bomber for a few years. Add to that his experience in working in automotive maintenance, Harcourt has a sense of a full functioning system with numerous working parts. He found that he enjoyed the mechanical work, though not as a career doing it for others. He revisited the idea of working with computers and settled on using his remaining GI Bill to study Computer Programming.
Harcourt got excited about programming during his first semester of actual programming classes while studying Javascript. It really clicked for him! The puzzle aspect of programming intrigued him. “It can be frustrating, though it was really fun to solve problems,” explained Harcourt.
“I'm always excited to help others solve their problems, It gives me a chance to gain a deeper understanding or the chance to learn something new.
Along with being the instructor of the CBC, Harcourt handles the basic IT work and explores new technologies around theClubhou.se. He will also be organizing Study Hall with Code Boot Camp, the monthly meetup which serves as an introduction to web development. He is interested in learning more about Networking and System Administration, and currently working on a personal server in Raid 0. All of this factors in nicely to theClubhou.se Core Value of Share Solutions “I'm always excited to help others solve their problems,” he says, “it gives me a chance to gain a deeper understanding or the chance to learn something new. Also when I'm stuck on something it's always awesome to have someone to lean on to help achieve your goals.”
A year into being a part of theClubhou.se, Harcourt says it has given him “the opportunity to keep learning, tinker with new things, gain experience, and make meaningful connections.” Harcourt is truly a member of the team and likely to have some insight to whatever you are tinkering with at the moment.
