‘Make Startups Gave Me That Boost in Confidence’

Natashia Bobbitt talked about opening her own consulting/coaching business for years, but she didn’t land her first client until she went through Make Startups training at theClubhou.se.

A mental health paraprofessional by day, Bobbitt was passionate about helping people identify the root of a problem and get past it—she just wanted to do it as her own boss. She took a first step by earning her coaching certification, but “I wouldn’t use it,” she says. “I didn’t have the confidence.”

She also didn’t really understand how to start a business, until she attended a networking event and met Shirlonda Evans, a recent graduate of theClubhou.se’s Make Startups entrepreneurship skills training program. Evans’ enthusiasm for Make Startups and the success of her own consulting business pushed Bobbitt to search online for the course and click Apply.

“I didn’t know if I was going to be accepted, but once I was, I was excited,” she says. “I understood this program would hold me accountable to start my business and get it out there.”

As she worked on the plan for her consulting business—Legacy 7, named after her five children and two grandchildren—she leaned on Make Startups’ expert trainers and mentors to check off that she was doing everything right in building the structure. Other major items were getting a handle on money coming in and out, understanding the value that a customer should receive, identifying ideal customers, and defining what sets her business apart.

“I understood Make Startups would hold me accountable to start my business and get it out there.”

She launched Legacy 7 part-time in September 2021 (with plans to go full-time in May 2022) and landed her first client soon after—coaching another mom, like herself, who needed the confidence to move from a traditional 9-to-5 job to a virtual role. “The problem Make Startups solved for me was the confidence and ability to start my business and get my first client,” Bobbitt says, who adds she likely wouldn’t have taken the opportunity to offer her services to this client without Make Startups. “It gave me that boost in confidence so that now when I’m going through my business, I know what I’m doing.

“Whether you’re in limbo with an existing business or you’re trying to start something new, I would say invest in this class. Because if you start a business and you don’t know the ins and outs, you can save some money and frustration by going through Make Startups. It’s going to teach you everything you need, start to finish. And it doesn’t cater to one business. You can take the knowledge and apply it to any business.

“I would take it again.”
