This month we’re featuring Randall Zapata, President of Zapata Technology, and Frank Braski, Founder of ColumbusMakesIT and River City Foundry.

Randall Zapata joined the National Guard when he was 17, and went to Basic Training between Jr. and Sr. year of high school. When Randall was 18, he joined the U.S. Army as a military intelligence signals analyst.  During his military service, Randall directly supported numerous military operations throughout the world. After the Army, Randall joined a large cleared defense contracting firm where he supported missions that solved some of the intelligence issues after 9/11.  He has an unparalleled level of expertise in the use and integration of leading edge information technologies and he specializes in enhancing organizational infrastructure operations.

Randall founded Zapata Technology in 2007 and since then has led all efforts to help shape the company’s rapid expansion into new business markets and to create numerous new strategic business partnerships.  Zapata Technology is located at the beautiful Enterprise Mill in Augusta, GA.

With Randall’s leadership he has lead the Zapata Team to be a two time winner for the  Washington Technology’s Fast 50 and Inc. 5000. Randall is a member of the CEO-mentoring organization Vistage.  Vistage is a business networking organization that helps CEOs and executives grow their businesses by making better decisions and achieving better results. In addition, Randall is a facilitator and member with the Augusta Entrepreneurs, where their mission is to challenge and grow CEO’s.

A self-described “Renaissance Geek”, Frank Braski considers himself both an artist and an engineer. Born and raised in Columbus, he’s been a technology enthusiast and tinkerer since he got his first computer at age 7. He started programming for hire at 14, and began fixing and selling computers shortly thereafter. After starting a consulting firm in Atlanta, he worked with most of the fortune 100 over a decade at IBM. As an IBM Global Services Managing Principal, he built two multi-hundred million dollar service practices pioneering internet enabled businesses, and industrial automation.

He worked at TSYS for 6 years where he created the IdeaCenter Innovation Lab and responsible for introducing and developing several patent-pending technologies, products and services. As an inventor and futurist, Frank has an international patent for mobile wallets that lets you pay with your mobile phone. Today he is the mobile Commercial eChannel manager at Synovus.

Ten years ago he began volunteering with FIRST Robotics, is a Columbus Space Program mentor, and now hosts the Regional and Super-Regional robotics competitions at Columbus State University. This year he created a large event called STEAMuL8! that in its inaugural year had over 7,800 attendees and close to a half-million dollar economic impact. A serial entrepreneur, Frank has started a couple of stand-alone businesses and even sold one (the local Marble Slab Creamery ice cream franchise) and most recently is the President and Founder of ColumbusMakesIT!, and RiverCity Foundry.

He is passionate about education, empowering people through entrepreneurship and engaging others in life-long learning. To be a positive role model for creativity and entrepreneurship, he mentors several area startups, and multiple K-12 robotics teams. He loves Legos, robots and drones, and programming elaborate Halloween and Christmas musical light shows.
