ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Medical Advocacy Partners

  • On January 3, 2017

theClubhou.se member Suzette Verbeck has ventured into entrepreneurship in the Health IT world with her business Medical Advocacy Partners.

What is the business?

I am a healthcare consultant and my business is Medical Advocacy Partners. I help physicians, mostly primary care, simplify their transition to value based care and improve overall clinical and business performance.

When and where did you found it?

I started my Georgia business in September of 2015.

What were you like in school?

School was a long time ago and my focus was on photography and journalism. I went back to college after my children started school and obtained my nursing license, with a goal of being a case manager.

Any extra-curricular activities?

My husband and I like to support our local artists in Augusta.

Any significant experiences/skills that (with hindsight) influenced your business?

My next step is to use my marketing and computer experience to promote my own business.

Any previous entrepreneurial experience? Lessons learned?

I started my first business 23 years ago, just after my first son was born. I wanted to buy a computer and needed to find a way to pay for it because we decided I would stop working.

What appealed to you about entrepreneurship?

I like the flexible schedule and being my own boss.

How did you get the idea?

My last jobs were with insurance companies as a quality consultant. I covered a large territory in Georgia and South Carolina doing some of the things I do now, but my focus was on improving the quality analytics for the insurance companies. I saw an opportunity to work directly with a group of physicians, so I hired a lawyer and presented them a contract. Now I focus on improving physicians businesses while improving the quality of care their patients receive.

How has your idea progressed over time?

Now I would like to grow my company, so I need to learn how to develop a business plan and find funding.

How did you market your business?

Brian Stewart designed my logo and a short video for my simple website. Now I need to start to market my business so it can grow.

How did you choose who to hire?

I recently hired a part-time assistant who has experience managing a business office.

Who are your main competitors?

There are large consulting companies that do some of the same things I do, but they tend to work with large practices and are expensive.

Favorite entrepreneurs?

I am looking for a mentor!

How has working out of theClubhou.se benefitted your company?

I have attended some educational events, but plan to spend more time at theClubhou.se this year. My focus will be to improve our community’s health and also promote our local artists. I also want to create an app!
